7 ways to get more ROI from your website
Many business owners pay for a website, launch it, and then wonder if it does anything. It looks nice, but the phone isn’t ringing. A website only pays for itself when it turns visitors into WhatsApp messages, calls and sales. These are the seven changes that make the biggest difference, based on research and what we see working for Malaysian small businesses, and how we can set each one up for you.
To get more return from your website: make it fast on mobile, say clearly what you do, where, and for how much, make contacting you one tap on WhatsApp, show real Google reviews, get found in local Google search, send ads and promotions to focused landing pages, and track every enquiry so you know what works.
What ROI means for a website
ROI (return on investment) is simply what the website brings in compared with what it costs. For most small businesses, the website’s job is to create enquiries: WhatsApp messages, calls, bookings or orders.
A quick example: if your website costs RM1,850 and one new customer is worth RM500 in profit to you, four customers pay for the whole website. Everything after that is return. So the question isn’t really “how much did the website cost?” but “how many enquiries does it bring each month, and how can it bring more?” Here are the seven levers.
1. Make it fast on mobile
98% of Malaysians are online, according to DataReportal’s Digital 2026 report, and most of them browse on a phone, often on mobile data. A slow site loses people before they see a single word.
- Speed affects sales. In the “Milliseconds make millions” study by Deloitte for Google, a 0.1-second faster mobile site increased conversion rates by 8.4% for retail sites and 10.1% for travel sites.
- Google measures it too. Google’s Core Web Vitals expect the main content to load within 2.5 seconds, and recommend good scores for success in Search.
- Quick wins: compress and resize photos (use WebP), remove unused plugins, sliders and pop-ups, and use decent hosting. Test your site on PageSpeed Insights, mobile result first.
How we help: we build lightweight websites that are tested on real phones, with optimised images and no unnecessary plugins. Our care plans include hosting with SSL, so the server side is looked after too.
2. Say what you do, where, and for how much
Visitors decide in a few seconds whether they’re in the right place. A headline like “Welcome to our website” or “Excellence in everything we do” wastes those seconds.
- Headline with the service and area: “Aircond servicing in Shah Alam, same-week appointments” tells people and Google exactly what you do.
- Show prices, or a starting price. “From RM120” filters out people who were never going to buy and gives everyone else the confidence to message you.
- Answer common questions on the page: area covered, how long it takes, payment options. Every question answered is one less reason to leave.
How we help: we write or rework your headline, service descriptions and FAQ with you, based on the questions your customers actually ask on WhatsApp.
3. Make contacting you one tap
Malaysians already message businesses on WhatsApp every day, so it’s the easiest way for a visitor to reach you. A long contact form, or a phone number they have to copy, loses enquiries.
- A WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message on every page, and a sticky button or bar on mobile so it’s always in reach.
- One main action per page. Repeat the same button after each section instead of offering five different choices.
- Tap-to-call phone numbers for customers who prefer to talk.
- Reply fast. The button only works if someone answers. WhatsApp Business greeting messages and quick replies help.
Our guide on why a WhatsApp button beats a contact form shows how to set the link up.
How we help: every website we build comes with WhatsApp buttons in the right places, each with its own pre-filled message, so you know which page the customer came from.
4. Show proof: reviews and real work
People trust other customers more than they trust your own description. In the Vodus Malaysia Consumer Consumption Study 2026, 63% of Malaysians said they seek reviews from peers or online sources before buying.
- Show real Google reviews with names, close to your WhatsApp buttons, not hidden on a separate page.
- Use photos of your actual work, team and premises instead of stock photos.
- Name clients or projects you’ve worked on, with permission, and add short before-and-after stories.
- Keep the reviews coming. Recent reviews matter most; our guide on getting more Google reviews has ready-to-send WhatsApp messages.
How we help: we add a reviews section and a “Review us on Google” button to your website, design project galleries, and can create a printable review QR code for your counter.
5. Get found in local Google search
When someone searches “klinik gigi Rawang” or “catering Shah Alam”, Google shows a map with three businesses before the normal results. Google says those results are based on relevance, distance and prominence, which includes your reviews and links to your website.
- Complete your Google Business Profile: correct category, hours, photos, services and your website link. Our Google Maps guide walks you through it.
- Give each main service its own page on your website, and mention the areas you serve naturally.
- Keep your name, address and phone number the same on your website, Google, Facebook and directories.
- Write helpful articles that answer what customers ask before they buy, like prices, how long it takes or how to choose. Google’s guidance rewards helpful, people-first content.
How we help: we build websites with proper page titles, descriptions, service pages and Google Search Console set up, and we can help set up and tidy your Google Business Profile.
6. Use landing pages for ads and promotions
Sending Facebook or Google Ads traffic to your home page is one of the most common ways to waste ad money. Visitors arrive looking for one specific offer and land on a page about everything.
- One page per campaign (a Hari Raya package, a new service, a property launch) that repeats the promise in the ad and has one clear button.
- Better pages can mean cheaper ads. Google Ads rates landing page experience as part of Quality Score: how relevant, clear, transparent and fast the page is. Higher scores generally mean better ad positions for less.
- Give people a reason to act now: a limited-time offer, a free consultation, or a monthly promotion like the one on our own home page.

How we help: our landing page package (RM850, one fixed price) is built for exactly this: one page, one offer, WhatsApp buttons and tracking ready for your ads.
7. Track what works, then keep improving
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Without tracking, you don’t know whether that RM500 of Facebook ads brought ten enquiries or none.
- Google Analytics 4 on every page, with WhatsApp clicks, phone taps and form submissions marked as key events.
- Google Search Console to see which searches bring visitors, and which pages Google can’t find.
- Ask every new customer “how did you find us?” and note it down. It fills the gaps analytics can’t see.
- Review once a month: which pages get enquiries, which don’t, and what to change next. Keep prices, promotions and photos up to date. An outdated website quietly loses trust.
How we help: every website we build launches with Google Analytics, WhatsApp click tracking and Search Console. With our Active care plan (RM149/month), you get 2 hours of changes every month to keep prices, promotions and pages fresh, plus priority response if anything breaks.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good return on investment for a small business website?
It depends on what one customer is worth to you. If a website costs RM1,850 and an average job brings in RM500 of profit, four new customers pay for it. After that, every enquiry it brings is a return. Tracking enquiries tells you whether it is working.
How do I know if my website is bringing in customers?
Set up Google Analytics with key events for WhatsApp clicks, phone taps and form submissions, and ask new customers how they found you. Google Search Console shows which searches bring people to your site.
Is it better to fix my current website or build a new one?
If the website is reasonably modern, quick fixes like speed, clearer headlines, a WhatsApp button and tracking often give the biggest return for the least money. If it is slow, hard to update or runs on outdated software, a rebuild is usually better value.
Do I need to run ads to get more from my website?
No. Local search, Google reviews and a clear website can bring steady enquiries without ads. Ads are a faster way to get traffic, but they work best when they send people to a focused landing page that is already set up to convert.
How long does it take to see results?
Changes to speed, headlines, buttons and tracking can show results within weeks. Google rankings and reviews build up over months, so the earlier you start, the better.
